5 quick steps to a superb "kawaii - inning"!

 image
Are you having a new friend over for the first time, and want to show off your super cute kawaii lifestyle? Or is it just a good ol´ bestie that you want to have an extra nice time with?
Well, this guide will show you in 5 easy steps how to set the mood for a great "kawaii - inning"!
What is a "kawaii - inning" you say? Nothing else than the opposite of an "outing" ;-)
If you are a student on a tight budget or just happen to don´t have too much money to spend, a night in might be a lovely alternative to frolicking around town! ^^

Well, here we go!

image 1. Smell image
This might sound like a strange first step, but please hear me out. Ok, so, having to spend time together with someone new, you know that every home has its own smell depending on the people that live there. So in preparation for your friend to come over, how about cleaning up real quick with some soap first of all. This sets a good base to work with. A while before you head out to meet your friend, being it picking them up at the buss-station or the like, how about spraying some nice vanilla-scented perfume on yourself? Vanilla-scented perfumes are easy to come by as it is a very common scent, so it shouldn´t be too hard to find. By doing this, your friend will think you smell like a marsmellow upon hugging you (and who doesn´t like the thought of that?), also, if you leave the heat on and close the window before you head out, when you get back in again, your room will smell like newly backed cinnamonrolls! And really, that smell is hard to beat.
(WARNING: this might settle a want for the actual thing, so beware, and perhaps prepared ;-3)

image2. Seatingimage
Now, your friend has arrived, and you´ve taken of your coats. Its time to have a seat!
If you live alone, you might perhaps not have enough furniture to seat everyone properly, or it might be odd positioned, so an easy option is having your bed made up to sit on. Now, I´m not going to tell you how you should make your bed, since your mom should have taught you, but I can tell you how to make it look as cute as possible and thus add to your "kawaii"– experience together! ^^
Do you have a hard time finding cute bedding in the shops? Or perhaps you´ve got a hard time finding the correct size for your bed–shape? Well, a simple solution is simply forgetting the bedding itself and focus on a nice throw or blanket! There are several online shops that sell cute sanrio–themed blankets or you could settle for a simple floral design or what about a pink one with white polkadots? This will make your bed look instantly cute no matter what your bedding looks like, and another pro is that you don´t have to remove your duvet or cushion to be seated properly, you have a nice soft place for both you and your friend to sit! Extra tip is to add some extra cushions or plushies with cute designs if you happen to have those.

image3. Decorationsimage
Once again, if you are a poor student or have a tight budget otherwise, you might find it hard to buy loads of plushies or flowers or whatever other things you could imagine it would be nice to decorate your space with. If you still want to show your friend your exellent kawaii taste, how about laying out your cutest accessories on top of a drawer or a small shelf ensemble?
Search up some pictures on tumblr for how to stack you goods, but I am sure that if you are at all interested in kawaii fashion, you do have atleast a couple of necklaces and some rings and bracelets, perhaps a few headbows or pins even! Laying them out for display is a good tip in many ways as it instanstly makes your room cuter, but it also makes it easier for you later if you decide to keep it that way, because you can get dressed faster! This is also a tip if you want a nice conversation starter; what about describing the time you made that bracelet or what friend gave you that necklace?

image4. Musicimage
Now, I am not going to dictate how you "run the show", but if you don´t have any particular plans with your "kawaii – inning" and just wanted to have a friend over for some chat time, or non movie–based activities, putting on some music is always nice. I could say that you should go totally out and put on the most sugary j-pop you know, but if you want to set a relaxing and comforting mood for you friend, that might acctually be a bit stressfull! Also, it might be distracting with someone singing in the background while you guys chat. So, I would suggest making a playlist with relaxing soundtracks from a cute movie you both enjoy (or introduce your friend to some new music?), or perhaps musical box music or maybe even classical music is a good way to go? Personally I think nothing sets the mood as some comfortable music. Having it be only melody–based make a good base for inspirational conversations.

image5. The little thingsimage
Lastly I wanted to add a little point about details. I personally think detail is key when it comes to presentation. If you really want to go the extra mile in impressing your new friend, please consider how you present the little things as well. It doesn´t have to be elaborate or pricy, there are some simple tricks that goes a long way! You have your own bathroom space? What about getting a cute soap-cup or dispenser? having a hand–soap that smells like strawberries is lovely on its own, but if you put it in a "My Melody"–shaped bottle, your friend will get a big smile on their lips while washing their hands. It also adds to your own elation later on! Another tip is how you present the snacks for you and your friend. Tea is always a good choice, and getting a couple of cute mugs is both easy and a handy investment. If you are the classical type, simply looking around a trift-shop might give you a handy result, since there is almost always a couple of tacky flower–printed cups to be found! Otherwise, take a look online for cheap sanrio mug on ebay perhaps? Pro tip: give your friend your own personal favourite mug. It makes your friend feel very appreciated.
The same thing goes for plates. Going to a thrift shop to find a floral plate couldn´t be easier. Otherwise, I might suggest a simple white plate with a cute napkin on top, or just a nice white border along the line. A last quick tip is to lay out the snacks symetrically in two parts. You might have an idea of a cake–presentation–plate, but if you own very few pieces of tableware, just using a plate for each of you where you´ve laied out the snacks in a nice pattern might be good.

And thats it!
What you do with the rest of the meeting is up to you :-)
If you are the kind of friends to game super–mario all night long, marathon tacky 90´s teenage-series like "Clueless" or "Sweet Valley High", or even if you are the kind of people that love horror movies despite your cute style otherwise, I won´t stop you from doing so!
The point is that now you´ve made a magical experience for both yourself and your friend.
And the best part is that now you´ve got these things all around you at all times, making your mood better in general (it really works!

I hope you enjoyed this quick little guide, and I hope you enjoy some good quality time with your friends. It might sound silly, but some of the best times I´ve spent visiting others was just simply spent talking together and hanging out like we did before computers. It was almost magical.

Let me know if you try any of these!
And good luck!

Kawaii characters: Kiiroitori

Hellooo

You all know about the massivly popular character Rilakkuma,
and perhaps also his white female counterpart, Korilakkuma, too?
I am a very big fan of both of them, especially Korilakkuma!
Like, I think I could very well fill my room
with korillakkuma stuff and be as happy as ever...

Well, in this entry, I´d like to talk about the third wheel on the ever so sucessfull bike,
the little yellow character that often falls into the shadows of the other two.
You know who I´m talking about, the one
that most people (that I have talked to) don´t even know the name of!

The bird Kiiroitori

picture from google

The word "Kiiroitori" means "yellow bird" in japanese. To further explain
the story behind "Kiiro", you must go back to the origin of Rilakkuma.
The story has it, that Rilakkuma just appeared one day, quite mysteriously, in the female office worker Kauro´s apartment. Rilakkumas name comes from the words "relax" and "kuma"
(which means bear in japanese) being pulled together. Rilakkuma is essentially a very
relaxed bear that has lazy and laid-back attitude. Korilakkuma has a "ko" in her name,
to let people know that she is in fact a girl. Her biggest pleasure is to be mischievous,
and play practical jokes on Rilakkuma.

Now,  Kiiroitori is a little bird that lives in Kauro´s house, being her pet chicken.
He used to only live in a birdcage, but now he sneaks out
to scold Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma for their lazy or mischiveous attitudes.
His character as a bird is that of a cleaning, hard-working tsukkomi.
A tsukommi is the character in a story that is smarter and more logical, and often
criticises the others for making mistakes. Basically, he´s totally opposite from how Rilakkuma is. Sometimes he gets kind of sad, because he´s affraid he scolds them to much,
so, pretty much he is a good guy deep down :3

picture from google
The reason I chose to write a bit about Kiiroitori today,
is because I find that I have become more and more obsessed
with this character. I think its kind of sad that he often gets ignored,
atleast in the western population of the world...
I adore that little round fluffball so much,
I wanna buy loads of Kiiroitori merchandise =v= hohoho

A good thing about being a fan of Kiiroitori internationally though,
is that he is a relativly "unknown" character. Like earlier mentioned, not many
seems to know his name, and he isn´t exactly the one flung all over peoples bedrooms
when you search for kawaii things on tumblr either, so...

If you are after getting some things to show your appreciation
of this highly underrated character, you can, in other words, get it quite cheaply! ^^
lets fill our house with kawaii things 8D

Here is some awsome warps for
Kiiroitori fans!

Get this medium sized Kiiroitori plush at EBAY for only 31$
 picture from ebay.
That is almost a 20$ difference to many of the Rilakkuma or Korilakkuma plushies they sell on Ebay...

Personally, I have fallen madly in love with these adorable little slippers, that I just HAVE to order
as soon as I get the funds for that kind of things =v=
Get your pair HERE for 24$
 picture from ebay.

And, you know that adorable Rilakkuma tote that is shaped like Rilakkumas head?
The one that everyone seems to have ?
Well, they acctually made one for Kiiroitori also ^^
It has such a happy yellow colour! love it!<3

You can get it HERE for 20$
 picture from ebay

If you want something more discreet, there is tons of adorable keychains out there
for you to pick from. "Kiiro" happens to be a very small character, so its quite natural
to make so many tiny items of him x3 hehe

Also, for a even more subtle way of showing your affection,
you could buy some really cute stickers! You probably won´t find sticker sheets
containing only Kiiroitori stickers, but if you buy some of the kind with mixed characters,
you will get quite a few of them eventually. Stickers is also a lovely way of
decorating your letters, if you have a penpal.
I love adding stickers to the letters I write <3
Also, you could even get a Rilakkuma letter set, where you would
probably find some designs involving "mr. fluffyball" :3 hihi

What do you think of Kiiroitori ?

Help spread the word of this cute little fellow around ^0^
 Kiiroitori needs love also! :---)
I hope you guys found some new Kawaii inspiration in this little info text.
The next big holiday coming up is easter after all,
so why not get a little head start?
"Kiiro" is a chicken after all...
I love learning about new kawaii characters,
the producers make the cutest background story for them :3
 It keeps it exciting!

I hope to write soon again!
 And I hope you enjoyed
this little obsession post x3 hehe

Kurebayashi - get the look! Part 2

Here is part two of my first ever tutorial: kurebayashi - get the look! ^^

I would love to write about her unique art style, since I love it so much, but since this is a style tutorial, I won´t bore you people that isn´t as crazy about art as I am xD haha

This tutorial will include:

Part 2
  • Clothing
  • Experimenting

Clothing

Kurebayashis clothing style can´t be defined under one category. Her style is a mixture of all the things that interest her! If one at all is going to categorize it, I would say it is a mixture of pop kei, with decora and amoeji kei! :) She definitely has a taste for kawaii!
Ripped up shirts, flower badges, bunny ears, bows galore and rainbow coloured socks is just so much fun, don´t you think? The key really, is loads of colours, but evenly spread all over!

(pictures from tumblr tag, source unknown)

She buys her clothes from a whole variety of different stores, from super cheap ones, to more expensive ones. Typically, you spot her in clothes from
  • Super Lovers
  • ACDC Rag
  • Bodyline
  • Angelic Pretty
  • MalkoMalka
  • Galaxxxy
  • Monomania
and many, many others!
Not to mention that she makes and alters tons of the clothes she owns as well! ^^ Everytime I look through her blog, she fills me with inspiration, and it just feels like I glow :D
I wanna do EVERYTHING! ^^
I hope I will be able to spread some of that inspiration to you guys, through these tips :)

Quite recently, she modeled some clothes from the brand "Super Lovers", with adorable pink details!
It is a very simple outfit, but it is super versatile for all kinds of occations!
Lovely for a boring, grey  school day that needs some sunshine in it.
I managed to pick together some pieces of what she wore, but also some different ones, so you can easily try the style yourself! ^^

Super lovers rocking sweater   *  puffy star skirt   *   heart over the knee socks   *   metallic shine platform

This is only basic pieces to the outfit, so there is a lot of things that can be added! ^^ What about a pair of suspenders, just to hang down the sides of the skirt? A studded hairband would fit perfectly! Also, for a more pop look, why not add a huge heartshaped bag? Personally, I would wear tons of buttons and badges :D

For another cute look, that is a bit cheaper, I picked together some pieces from the brand "ACDC Rag", that is really cute look-a-likes to an old outfit Kurebayashi wore in a magazine! ^^
This look is more boy-ish, and fits perfectly for a fun day, running some errands. It is easy, and still quite ... eye catching ;-)

A thousand eyes sweater hoodie  *   Skull t-shirt   *   Starry pink harem pants

I would wear this outfit with rainbowcoloured sneakers,( like the ones Kaila has in her banner! ^^)
and big hairbuns! A smileyface button would look great as well!

The greatest thing about "ACDC Rag" is that they have all kinds of cute clothes, for the cheapest prices you can imagine. Especially their tshirts is worth looking into,
as you can find ones for as little as 10 $!

Experimenting

Now, over to more home-made stuff, to get your inspirational fluids flowing :D
(eww,that sounds gross XD hahaha)

(picture is taken from her personal blog)

Achieve the style!
  1. Cut out a huge felt heart, star, circle, triangle or even a square! Sew on a bow, some rhinestones and buttons for details, or design your own character, and you have yourself your very own kurebayashi styled tshirt!
  2. buy, or make a douzin silky bows and attach arround the edge of the neckline to a top. Use bows in all the shades of the rainbow for the most fun ^^
  3. Make pom poms out of yarn and attach them to anything! Kurebayashi has tons of pom poms in her outfits, if you just look for them :) (here is a 5 min. tutorial on how to make them!)
  4. Cut off the head of two small teddybears that has seen better days, and sew them on to your platform sneakers. You always see her jumping around in her panda platforms :D
  5. Draw a cute character and get it printed on a button to wear for a totally unique look! (here is a place to get personalized buttons!)

The most important thing you do, when you wanna try out someone elses look, is try to adjust it to your own likes! ^^ Even though you like their style, NEVER try to completly copy them!
Take aspect and details that you like into mind, be experimental and create your own versions of things you see! ^^

Because I have been so inspired by Kurebayashi lately, I have studied her outfits and intricate little details a lot, and wanted to try and make my own look :D

That is why, I can now present my Josephine x Kurebayashi  outfit ^^

♥Kureba - Josie ♥

Top: Cubus
Cake hoodie: ACDC rag
Skinny jeans: H&M
Shoes: An*tai*na
Hairties: Miyamo
Accesories: Taobao, Milklim, homemade

I made it very simple, for a regular school day. I added my own taste, with skinny jeans and platform shoes (even though she also wears platform sneakers very often ;-) ) and I used a cake pattern top, that fits her taste in patterns! ^^ I wanted to use my new Miyamo hairties, but also my Trex necklace, to make the green details in the pattern pop!

I still need to get my first pair of false lashes, but I still like the makeup I did quite a lot ^^

tried doing the famous Juria pose ^^ Kinda like it! It shows of my lovely new Panda hairtie so well *v*

I hope you guys enjoyed my Kurebayashi tutorial, and that you found it usefull and inspiring! ^^
It was a fun project for me to work with, and I learned a lot of new things about what kind of outfits I like wearing!

I really wanna try more styles in the future, and I hope I can make more tutorials to inspire creativity in my readers as well! It is a lot of fun to try out different styles, especially if you are used to one kind of style and begin to feel a bit bored with it....

Thank you very much for reading,
and as always I appreciate all kinds of feedback! :D
